Type 2 Diabetes Exercise Physiology · Chirnside Park

Exercise support that starts with where you are now.

If you have Type 2 Diabetes and know you should be more active but are unsure what is safe, useful or realistic, you do not have to work it out on your own.

This small-group Exercise Physiology program combines an individual assessment with a tailored exercise program that you can then work through in a supervised group environment.

You do not need to be fit before you start.

Type 2 Diabetes Exercise Physiology

Tuesday + Friday 10:30am–11:30am.

When

Tuesday + Friday

10:30am–11:30am.

Group size

Maximum 12

Small enough for supervision while still giving you the connection of exercising with other people.

Ongoing cost

$16 casual

After Medicare-supported services have been used, you can continue privately at $16 per session.

Start with an individual assessment

The group program is still built around you.

Before joining the group, you will meet individually with me so I can understand your health, current movement, confidence, goals and any limitations that need to be considered.

From there, we can build an individual exercise program for you to use during the group sessions.

That means you are not expected to copy exactly what everybody else is doing.

Your exercises can be adjusted as your confidence, strength and fitness change.

Individualised Type 2 Diabetes Exercise Physiology in Chirnside Park

What might we work on?

More than just “doing some exercise.”

Strength

Build useful strength gradually through resistance exercises adapted to your current ability and health.

Cardiovascular fitness

Use walking, cycling, boxing-style activities and other movement to gradually build physical capacity.

Balance

Work on steadiness and confidence so concerns about balance do not become another reason to avoid activity.

Coordination

Use practical movement activities that challenge timing, reaching, stepping and whole-body control.

Confidence

Become more comfortable with movement without needing to already feel fit or experienced.

Consistency

Find a form of movement you are more likely to return to regularly rather than pushing too hard and stopping.

Supervised Exercise Physiology

Your health matters while you move.

Blood pressure and blood glucose monitoring can be used when clinically appropriate.

We can also consider things such as joint pain, reduced mobility, fatigue, balance concerns and confidence with exercise when deciding how to approach your session.

The aim is not to push everybody through the same workout.

The aim is to help you exercise safely and consistently at a level that makes sense for you.

Type 2 Diabetes Medicare pathway

Eligible participants may be able to access an assessment plus group Exercise Physiology through Medicare.

The Type 2 Diabetes group allied health pathway is separate from the usual five individual allied health services available under a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan.

Step 1

One individual assessment

Eligible participants can access one individual assessment for group allied health services under the Type 2 Diabetes pathway, subject to Medicare referral and claiming requirements.

Step 2

Up to 8 group allied health services

Eligible participants may then access up to eight group allied health services per calendar year.

These eight services are shared across the eligible Type 2 Diabetes group allied health disciplines, so the number available for Exercise Physiology depends on whether any have already been used elsewhere.

Where Medicare requirements are met, I intend to bulk bill eligible Type 2 Diabetes assessment and Exercise Physiology group services.

Once Medicare-supported services have been used, you can continue attending the group privately for $16 casual.

You do not need to get fit first

If you have not exercised for years, that simply tells me where we are starting.

You can take a break, use a seated or supported alternative, ask a question or work at a different pace from somebody else in the room.

I would rather help you find movement you can return to than push you too hard in the first week.
